If you could be anyone would you choose you?
If not, why not?
A good question! Most of us wouldn’t even consider choosing to be ourselves. That is preposterous. We would rather be someone else. Someone who has it all (seemingly). Someone who is just not us.
All the negatives come to the surface that have been living quietly in the background. Yet, they have been driving you. Leading your life for you. They have become a habit. They keep at you when you even show a hint of actually liking yourself or something you have done that makes you feel great. Back into your box, you go, suitably chastised. Small and invisible.
Ask yourself: Is this what you really want?
It is time to dust yourself off and shine. It is time to choose you. When you are you, you are in your element. You are present, you are alive, and you are being mindfully you. And loving it! Your confidence soars. You feel you can conquer the world (or 40 story buildings which I will be abseiling this week to raise funds). And you feel strong and powerful.
Nothing will stop you from getting out there and achieving. Whether it be in business, as an entrepreneur, as a wife, mother, daughter, aunt or friend. Getting up each morning is exciting. What adventure can you go on today? What will you do to push yourself? Will you go to attend that secretly desired dance class, cooking or art class you have been wanting to do for years? Or is it something adventurous and crazy? And you haven’t enrolled in yet.
Because you can find every excuse under the sun to stop you from getting you out there. You are not good enough, don’t look the part, or you would look silly and not get it right. How embarrassing! They will all be better than me. It never occurs to you that they are feeling the same. And that is what is also stopping them from getting out there, too.
Can you imagine what you are all missing out on? Yourselves, others, connections, fun, a sense of achievement, and pride? You did it. You praise your child, your friend, your colleague. Yet, not yourself. And not only that, you are unable to accept praise. Enlist a friend to come with you so both of you can enjoy being yourselves.
time to choose yourself
It is time to choose to listen to that other voice of yours. The voice that wants to be you. The voice that wants you to be visible and out there. Let go of the reigns and allow yourself to run wild. Or at least, take a step towards that in whichever way feels right for you. And do it now.
Feeling the excitement yet? Sit mindfully for a moment and allow your mind to wander. Where would it take you if there were no obstacles, challenges or limiting beliefs? Start listening to your voice, even if it is only a whisper. That whisper can grow and take on its own life if you allow it to. See what wants to emerge and be given a breath of life.
Here are a few questions you can begin to ask yourself:
- What am I excited about right now?
- What am I proud of?
- What am I afraid of if I make this change?
- What benefits would there be if I make this change?
