Further to my blog on How to remain mindfully creative in your life, we are going to discover how we are holding ourselves back from unfolding into our creatively.

‘I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.’
Albert Einstein

This will take quiet time for reflection in your sacred space and with a journal if you choose. There is something about writing your thoughts down on paper. You get clarity, coherency and understanding on what is holding you back from stepping into this magical space.

I am positive all sorts of distractions came up for you as to why you aren’t creative. All those little voices in the back of your mind that stop you from expressing yourself the way you want, let alone get started. Did these feelings that raise their ugly heads: frustration, anger, resentment, unworthy, silly, jealousy, or anything else? Enough for you to turn away and carry on the way you are in your life. Thwarted and living in quiet desperation.

Time stands still when you are in flow

You know when you are in flow as time stands still. It is the most amazing feeling when you look up and look at the time to find hours have gone by. You had creatively lost yourself in the moment being present and mindful. Pure joy and magic! There was no negativity, distractions, noise and busyness. There was just you and your imagination having fun playing. The perfect creative partnership!

What is holding you back?

Take the time to answer the questions to see what is holding you back.

  • What am I excited about?
  • What is right for me?
  • How do I want to express my creativity?
  • Do I believe I can do this?

This can stir up all sorts of emotions, some that you did not even know existed. And these are what are stopping you from moving forward. Quoting Albert Einstein: ‘I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be.’

Who do I want to be to be creative?

Next step is you need to know who you are now to work out who you want to be creative.

  • What am I afraid of?
  • What is the payoff for my keeping things the way they are?
  • What am I willing to do to make it the way I want it?
  • What habit is holding me back?

This is a great start to get you thinking and exploring how you want to be in this world of yours. Take time and keep trying. You will fall and get up again. Just do it without reservation and with abandonment.

Be a participant in your creative life. Not a bystander.
