I am going through notes I have made over a period of time about meditation and its benefits. And I would like to share some of them with you.

what meditation does for you

It is all about being focussed, aware and mindful of your thoughts and emotions and opening yourself up to what is going on inside your head, rather than closing down. As you become more and more familiar with what is hindering you and distracting you from being your true self.

You begin to see more clearly how you hold yourself back, how you react to what is going on around you and how busy you really are with thoughts and tasks that are actually not relevant at all in your life, yet take up a lot of space and precious energy.

I have found through meditation using various techniques to suit where I am at at that point in time, I am able to clear my mind, to clear my thoughts, get out of the fog and intensity of the moment. This happens to all of us at some point in time in our lives, if not all the time.

As you start to apply these techniques into your everyday life, you begin to see that you do it all the time. As you begin to clear your mind you see how you change how to act, think, and be. You begin to see how tired you are, how exhausted you actually are and have not realised it as you are working on autopilot.

unlearn old patterns

A few years ago, I simply ran out of energy and had a complete breakdown. I just kept pushing on and on, doing, doing, not listening to all the signs that my body and mind were showing me.

I did not know how to listen and act. I did not know how to slow down and take a look at my life that had become totally unmanageable. In addition, I was out of control and no matter what I did (by using my old patterns and mindset) I could not manipulate the situation to my advantage any more. My body had run out of steam. No more!!

So I had to unlearn all these old patterns and stop pretending everything was totally cool, depending on old ways of being which simply were not working, and get on with making vital changes to my way of life.

Therefore denial had to go out the window, running away from what was really happening in my life and shutting down from it all. I had to stand up and face it to get my life back on track. There were no more excuses, no more distractions, no more pretence, and believe you me I did try all of those and still can do. After all, we are only human.
