We are all creative beings in our own way. You don’t need to be an artist, painter, writer or a designer for that matter to be mindfully creative. You can be creative in all aspects of your life: as you, as a Mum, as an entrepreneur, as a friend, as a business person, and when you have retired. Nor are you too old or too young to explode your creative juices into the world.

Being creative is how you lead your life. Are you able to step out of the mould and be who you want to be? It is a mindset and feeling confident. It is having fun being true to yourself in your own beautiful unique way.

How to know how to be creative?

By being mindful. It takes time to develop your style of creativity. You will go up one path to end up going down another until you find your creative groove. You will know as it will feel right. Being creative has many different aspects to it. And you can be creative in so many areas of your life. It is about becoming in tuned to who are you and what floats your boat. And you can do this mindfully.

When you sit quietly and give yourself the time, you will be amazed at how many ideas pop into your mind on how you are already being creative and how to be creative. It is about finding your sacred spot and allowing your mind to play, no matter how mad or absurd it might seem.

Remember, this is for your eyes only. I know for me it has helped me grow and expand in all areas of my life. Many ideas did not see the light of day. However, they helped me along the way to creating the life that I now have.

How you are already being mindfully creative in your life

When it was pointed out to me that I was already being creative in aspects of my life, I was surprised. I had never thought of what I was already doing was creative. It had come naturally to me. I always had it in my mind that I was uncreative and couldn’t even draw a stick man properly due to a comment made at school all those years ago. That stymied me for all these years. What a loss to my life and those around me.

This will give you food for thought on where you are being creative already. As mentioned, in my previous blog, I was being creative in my own way:

  • with how I dressed – colourful, vibrant and putting patterns together to create my unique style
  • how I presented my delicious meals
  • the way the table was set – flowers, candles, colourful napkins
  • how I created my home to be warm, welcoming and lived in

How to tune into your creativity

Your turn. It is about being mindful and getting lost in the present moment. That means creating time for yourself to lose yourself in yourself. How can you do this?

  • Find your sacred space
  • Get outdoors by going for a walk along the beach, in the woods, in nature
  • move your body – dance to your favourite music, go to yoga, swim
  • get a notebook and start doodling and writing whatever comes to mind. It does not need to make any sense at all.
  • Above all have fun and be mindful in all that you do.

In the next blog I will take about how we hold ourselves back from doing all of the above. In the meantime, get started on your creative journey.
