It is time to value you and make friends with yourself.  When you allow yourself to be mindfully and truthfully you, your life takes on a whole different perspective. As a result you will find that you a feel more confident, joyful, loving, happy with a zest for life. And the life you are leading is yours and no one else’s. That is true freedom – valuing you.

How to find this? By no longer listening to others and starting to trust yourself. You can so easily get caught up in other people’s perceptions of you that you lose sight of your own value and who you really are. What you don’t realise is that you aren’t following your own heart.

how does this affect your life?

It makes you feel like a stranger to yourself. You aren’t connected to you and what you love in life. There is this constant sense of inadequacy whirling in and around you. It is like a veil that never gets lifted. You are forever second guessing yourself as you value the other person’s opinion and advice more than you do your own. As a consequence, you may never make decisions based on what is right for you.

There is this constant niggle at the back of your mind out in the ether somewhere of feeling stuck and being frozen. it isn’t fully in your awareness and you can’t quite put your finger on it. But it is there. No matter what you do, that niggle doesn’t go away. In order for this to happen, you have to first understand what you are doing and why.

It is about sitting in quiet contemplation being with your thoughts in all their glory which is painful and uncomfortable. Furthermore, all you will want to do was get up and walk away.

When you take the time to become consciously aware of your patterns of behaviour, you begin to see how you lose yourself into justification and blame. Anything to move away from feelings of insignificance, awkwardness, inadequacy and stuckness. You learn to see how you make other people’s opinions your own to protect yourself to fill an empty void.

As you learn to be mindful, you begin to see how you have been deceiving yourself and creating this false image of yourself to be loved, accepted, wanted, acknowledged, or whatever it is for you. Instead of running away from this pain, you lean into it, befriend it and allow it to dissipate. Slowly, you get an acceptance of who you were and now can make the changes to be who you truly are.

There can be such relief when you begin to see that it is the other’s story and only their point of you. Yours is just as valuable and important. Doubt begins to be replaced with belief and confidence in who you are. Life starts to get a different shine to it with more joy, happiness, ease of being, and enjoyment of being in your own skin and loving it.

When you begin on this journey of self-discovery, remember to have a support system around you. This is meant to be only thought provoking as this has been my experience I wanted to share with you. Sitting mindfully is one way to give you the time to open up to what is right now right in front of you. It is an invitation for you to notice where you are at with your thoughts and emotions. By quietening your mind, gives you the opportunity to have clarity and embrace what is happening for you to then turn it around. You learn to neither indulge or repress what is there for you. You sit quietly with what is learning to accept it in its entirety and watch it dissolve.

This, in turn, gives you the space to come back home to you. It is a wonderful feeling when you begin to get to know yourself and see your own value. Life takes on a whole new meaning with you in the starring role now.
