It is all about creating your day the way you want it to have it – with a ritual. A delightful way to start your day is by being quiet and still for a few moments before you get up and get going.
I have found that how I start my day has a big effect on my overall sense of success and achievement and it sets the tone for the day. And I am sure it will for you too. Some days you just get out of bed on the wrong footing and it pans out that way for the rest of your day. You wish you could just start again.
importance of starting your day with a ritual
So it is important to start your day calmly, quietly and mindfully without noise or with quiet music rather than in a frenzy. This helps you get your day into focus and perspective and you can be responsive rather than reactive. You will find you are more in control, able to cope, and positive with “I can do” attitude. It helps clear your mind so you can see more easily what is important and what may be reactionary.
Even if you only have a few minutes I suggest you do the following:
Take the time to take a couple of deep breaths to bring you into the present moment enjoying sighing as you release easing yourself into the day. At the moment, letting go of what you need to do and just being present with the now in between the quiet of dawn and the start of the day.
Start asking yourself the following questions or any that you wish as you scan your body sensing any anxiety or tensing of any part of your body. Make sure that what you want to achieve is realistic. Ask yourself what can I do, what can I put into place so I can achieve what I have set out to do and how to ease any stress you may already be feeling:
- Do I need to do this?
- Does this benefit my day?
- What is it I want to achieve today?
- What am I excited about for today? Taking a few breaths to feel what it is you are excited about.
- What I am going to most enjoy today? Smiling as you do so knowing that smile on your face is full of joy.
- What am I committed to doing today for myself?
- Does this help me reach my goals?
ideas to be in the present moment
- Turn the landline and/or mobile onto silent for a while.
- Make sure you stop for a moment or two to take a breath on a regular basis.
- Say no to something unexpected that turns up – not this time, thank you.
- Take a moment to see what it is you need to do to enjoy your day.
And make this into your daily ritual that you look forward to each and every day. And as you get more practised in doing this, take more time and add music, candles, journaling or whatever it is you like doing.
Have a great day. Namaste
